One of the most common questions we get on are fishing charters is when is the best time to go fly fishing along Florida's Forgotten Coast.
Apalachicola, St George Island & Carrabelle Florida help make up Florida's best kept secret when it comes to fly fishing. This pristine environment and it's miles seemingly endless undeveloped shorelines harbor a truly unique and amazing saltwater fly fishing destination.

January & February

Apalachicola fly fishing
The new years rings in one of the best times to fly fish for red fish in Apalachicola. January & February Florida's Forgotten Coast host gin clear waters and the lowest tides of the year. This is a perfect combination for sight fishing red drum on the fly rod. Anglers can expect lots of opportunities at red drum & some trophy speckled trout in the mix.

March & April

Spring fly fishing on St George Island
When spring is in the air we love to go fishing ! St George Island is where you need to go. March & April the flats come to life as the water warms from the longer days. providing few more hours a day light to chase speckled trout on topwater. On both fly and conventional tackle spring is the time for some intense topwater bites.
With the temps rising are tarpon start to show up on the local flats.  We start fishing tarpon along with Jacks and cobia on the warmer days.

May, June & July

Apalachicola tarpon fishing is best May through August
Summer time and the living's easy! Let's talk about tarpon fishing. Florida's forgotten coast has the best tarpon fishing in Florida. The Florida panhandle has big tarpon that eat in a pristine ecosystem. These fish are large and powerful, they will push any angler to the brink. Early mornings watching tarpon slowly roll towards you is how the day usually starts. As the sun reaches up to the top of the sky we stalk large groups of migratory tarpon as well as singles cruising over the beautiful white sand flats. Tarpon along Florida's forgotten coast size range. The  smaller tarpon are in the 60 pound range with the larger tarpon in the 100 to 200 pound range. Size large!

August & September

With summer winding down and the kids getting ready for school. The fly fishing remains great out of Carrabelle Florida. During August & September fishing out of Carrabelle can provide opportunities at tarpon, jacks, cobia, redfish, triple tail, black drum and a whole lot more.  The weathers hot and so is the fishing no matter if your fishing with a fly rod are using conventional tackle this an amazing time to go fishing. Large biomasses of bait enter Apalachicola bay in between St George Island and Apalachicola. The pods hold large feeding frenzies of tarpon, jacks, sharks and more. Fishing these large bait pods is nonstop action.

October, November & December

The best time to fish St George island Florida
Fly fishing the shallow flats of St George Island Florida
Apalachicola bay is a special place and there isn't a time thats more apparent then  fall. As the temps start to fall the flats around St George Island are teeming with life, the airs crisp and there's a special feeling you get this time of year. It's similar to that special feeling you get every time you step on the bow of a fly fishing skiff. But its. cooler the rods lighter and the water is shallower. The flats are so alive and teeming with life. We switch gears  back to targeting redfish, pompano, drum and speckled trout around St George island and Apalachicola Florida.
